We are delighted to announce our first solo of 2023:
“I’m Sorry Dad, I Know You Don’t Like It” by @jo_schwabl 💥

🗓️ 11th – 16th April
🍷 11th April, 6-8.30pm

Jo Schwabl’s solo is an interactive exploration of the role of conversation within art, which situates the viewer at its centre.

This exhibition explores the ways in which art dictates conversation as often as conversation dictates art.

Through her study of art restoration in Florence, Jo’s work reflects renaissance influences that operate in tension with playful compositions and surrealist motifs. Elements of humour are layered with political discourse to create works that offer both comfort and challenge.

This interest in layering is also expressed via medium, as Jo layers the paint on the canvas to create her colours. Rather than mixing on a palette, she allows each layer to interact with the last until the final hue emerges.

This journey through Jo’s body of work concludes by encouraging viewers to name this untitled series, in an interactive exhibition that situates onlookers at its centre.

A word from the artist:

“Each piece is a figurative discourse on a particular theme, drawing on my own experiences and observations as well as the shared cultural landscape.”

“Ultimately, my hope is that my art will spark meaningful conversations and encourage viewers to see the world in new and unexpected ways.”
