About the exhibition:

Makoto’s work celebrates diversity and the differences that make us all unique, and yet connected.

The gallery has been covered with 2,000 photographs of people who have captured Makoto’s attention across the world. Each subject adopts the powerful stance that defines Makoto’s work, taking up space with pride.

This pose captures the tension between individuality and community that Makoto seeks to explore; although we all stand alone and need independence, ultimately, we also crave connection. Here, the phrase ‘no man is an island’ rings true, and despite each subject standing alone, all are joined together by that very stance.

Makoto’s exhibition is available to view until Sunday, 4th December.
