Our Art in Mind artists tackle the most relevant issues of contemporary society, amplifying voices and concerns that are often overlooked or misunderstood. Through bold, striking visual imagery, they bring attention to these critical matters, urging deeper reflection and dialogue.
Our Landscape artists explore the fantastic and whimsical way in which we commune with the world around us. The urban and natural environment is depicted in ways both real and imagined, invite reflection on how our environments shape our sense of self and place.

Ann Palmer

Ann Palmer is a British artist with a diverse background, holding an MD, MBA, and MSc in Community Health. A self-taught artist, Ann works from her Garden Studio on King Edward Road and is also a Resident Artist with Nucleus Arts in Chatham.
Ann is best known for her seascapes, but is now gaining recognition for her modern landscapes. During this past year, Ann has been exploring the use of mixed media and expressionist painting. Ann’s process involves sketching the landscape directly on site, then bringing those sketches back to her studio.
When Ann is in the studio, her memories play an important part in her painting; the palette knife takes over, carefully placing the colours juxtaposed with each other resulting in a more abstract form of the style.

Peter Coates

A word from the artist:
‘I like to paint pictures of places where I’d like to be or images that give me joy. I’ve tried painting subdued pictures, but I always seem to end up using bright colours.
My paintings are inspired by the coast and countryside of Dorset where I live and places I visit abroad on my travels.
I’ve been painting for over 20 years and exhibited in galleries across the UK and have been represented in the US.’

Richard Sutton

Richard is a British artist based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. He graduated from University College London with a degree in Town Planning but later developed a passion for art. He has exhibited three times at the Courtyard Arts Gallery in Hertford.
Richard’s paintings are inspired by his desire to explore the diverse and captivating landscapes of London. Central to his work is the flow and atmosphere of foot traffic within the city, as well as the varied roles people play in urban life, from commuting to tourism.

Alf Wells

Alf’s Art broke into the art world 20 years ago when he was selected as a ‘New Artist in Hampshire’ by the Hampshire County Culture Department. Since then he has exhibited across the Home Counties, setting up residency at ‘TheGallery’ for the past 6 years.
Alf’s art explores political and societal issues that impact our modern world. Rather than offering answers, his work encourages viewers to engage with and question these issues themselves.

Kate Samuels

Kate has been enamelling for over 20 years and was introduced to the technical process while studying Jewellery and Silversmithing at London Metropolitan University. It was during her MA at UCA, Rochester, Kate was able to push and explore new boundaries of the art form. She regularly exhibits both locally and in London. Alongside her practice she is a lecturer and runs an independent small business, making bespoke enamelware.
A word from the artist:
‘I work with Vitreous Glass Enamel, which I apply to steel or copper, painted on in a liquid form and fused in my kiln in my studio in the Kent countryside.
All ideas start and evolve in my sketchbooks, mostly responding to natural forms, grown in my garden and living by the sea, which are then transferred and drawn directly onto the enamel surface.
Each individual piece has a unique surface quality, texture and vibrancy. My work is an attempt to ground myself in this busy world, through being in nature and attempting those slower mindfulness moments.’

Tina Leslie

Tina is a fine artist with 35 years of experience, during which she has developed and refined her unique style through a diverse range of media, including pottery, ceramic sculpture, oil painting, and mixed media.
Based in London, her work has been showcased in exhibitions such as Inside Outside and Architects of the Imagination at The Ply Gallery, group shows at the Oxo Tower and Holy Art Gallery, as well as the annual Open Studios Weekends at Kingsgate Workshops.
Tina’s impressionistic, abstract, and vibrant paintings of cityscapes and nature celebrate the rhythm and musicality of mark-making.

Magdalena Zahuta

Magda’s work is an emotive and deeply personal foray into nature, the world around her, and her own lived experience. Her paintings, created using oil on canvas and impasto techniques, and often built up over the course of years, are as much a physical journey as they are an emotional one.
