Journey Into the Exhibition

IKONA – an exhibition by Samantha Louise Emery
3-7 October
OPENING RECEPTION | October 3 | 6:30pm – 8pm

“Throughout my life I’ve sought to understand who it is to be a woman. What is the nature of our roles as a daughter, a mother, a wife, a sibling and ultimately an individual? The root of Femininestrength lives in us and is a birth right to all women. I am on a journey to rediscover the source of a woman’s power, the Feminine spirit.
We’ve been graced with living in a time when many women have asserted their Feminine selves and have inspired others through their actions. Yet there still is much more awareness to be brought to the world about Feminine solidarity, education and the positive effects it can have for girls and women today, and for the future. This sense of purpose drives the exploration and rendering of IKONA | Mirrored Interior; celebrating women that have inspired my life through their actions, attitudes and accomplishments. Some of these women I have known quite well and have participated in my evolution as a woman, and as an artist. Others have inspired me from afar, and yet all of them share something in common; they exercise their bold vulnerability with courage and dignity. This internal mirroring is a phenomenon that I work to expand through my use of embroidery, digital and traditional painting techniques and photography. I follow an intuitive process and seek to combine colour and shape to develop textures that interpret these Feminine qualities while honouring the unique personality of each subject.”

IKONA | Mirrored Interior will include 10
original multi and mixed media interpretive
portraits of 10 significant, living women.
