Born in Sheffield, Philip Michael Martin’s artistic process has been forged from an impressive CV of creatively driven jobs, from Copywriter, Art Director, and Creative Director, now full-time artist based in London, presenting his solo show at The Brick Lane Gallery.
In this latest exhibition, he introduces us to a collection of seemingly unconnected images where reality takes an increasingly back seat. He’s less interested in recreating necessarily recognisable shapes, figures and places. The paintings often emerge from randomly abstract backgrounds. Multiple images in lush colours that ask you how they make you feel rather than what you think. As always, Philip builds the pieces with many different layers of paint, glue, oil and resin to create texture so that the paintings always have a delicious physicality when seen in the flesh.
Philip Michael Martin’s work has been exhibited at several renowned galleries including Actone (2021), Grammercy Park (2022) and J/M Gallery (2023), and will be exhibiting at The Other Art Fair from the 7th – 10th March at The Truman Brewery.
