The Brick Lane Gallery is delighted to announce its upcoming exhibition, The World Is Colorful, featuring two compelling contemporary photographers, Jim Pietrangelo and Miguel Subtirelu. This special presentation explores the power of photography to reveal mood, narrative, and painterly atmosphere in the world around us.
Jim Pietrangelo
A lawyer by profession, Pietrangelo began his journey into photography in 2014. In his current body of work, The World Is Colourful, Pietrangelo transforms everyday scenes into poetic visual experiences, capturing original atmospheric elements – particularly light and colour – to achieve what he describes as a painterly style and narrative depth.
Each image is a faithful rendering of what the eye witnessed at the moment of capture, unmanipulated and authentic. Pietrangelo refers to this distinctive approach as “Etherealism”, a photographic language that blends realism with a dreamlike quality. Works such as Autumnal Mist, Cloud Bank, and Ripple Effect, Lake Geneva exemplify this delicate balance, where natural phenomena and urban landscapes alike are elevated into timeless compositions.
Miguel Subtirelu
Working under the name Cruentis, Miguel Subtirelu is a German-based photographer whose practice focuses on portraiture and fine art photography. Originally trained as an illustrator, Subtirelu shifted his creative path in 2021, founding Cruentis in 2025 to pursue a visual language rooted in realism and clarity.
His work explores the nuances of human expression and the subtle interplay between subject and environment. Through a refined use of light and composition, Subtirelu crafts images that are both intimate and powerful, revealing the quiet strength of his subjects and the stories they embody.
Together, Pietrangelo and Subtirelu offer contrasting yet complementary visions: one grounded in the atmospheric poetics of place, the other in the profound presence of the human form. The World Is Colorful invites viewers to consider how photography can transcend documentation to become painterly, emotional, and deeply human.
