ART IN MIND
10th – 22nd FEBRUARY
OPENING 10TH 6.30 – 8.30
In continued support of emerging artists, The Brick Lane Gallery is excited to present its next selected group exhibition 'Art in Mind', opening on the 10th February and running through to the 22nd February.
On this occasion, we bring together diverse concepts of works from various mediums from painting to digital works, and drawing to urban street art style from nine talented UK and international artists.
Using oil on canvas, Karen Brown’s paintings often seem to be transforming, floating or moving, as if evolving and bringing a sense of sub-consciousness or dreaminess to them. She also occasionally uses subjects such as unusual animals which don't correspond to the ordinary "rules of nature".
Similarly and through a combination of new technologies and traditional techniques, Audrey Canalès takes her inspiration from her dreams, presenting us with a universe of her own, full of chimeras, half-human-half-animal creatures, with a strong poetic dimension.
With a more down-to-earth approach and by mixing a humorous touch with the use of bold colours, Andrea Altkuckatz inspires herself by her surroundings. Living in the Bavarian countryside, she focuses on the contrasts between the bustling city life and the more romantic country settings.
Continuing on the topic of figurative forms, Anna Poerio's paintings are based on the harmonic gracefulness of movement. Her paintings portray delicate scenes of seductive figures dancing spontaneously and where flowers bloom harmoniously in a dreamy atmosphere.
Wally Gilbert’s work is based on intricate and lengthy processes within the digital photographic field, working with layering and digital manipulation.
Becoming increasingly interested in the various textures produced by these methods, Wally developed new techniques to produce interaction and Moiré patterns as well as a large variety of brilliant colors in a purely aesthetic exploration.
Through the medium of drawing and painting, Sahar Aljajeh’s interest lies in capturing the essence of the objects surrounding her. Having originally worked with the medium of charcoal, she developed an understanding of how images are formed through light and shade and how colours are produced and interact with one another. For Sahar, oil painting “reflects the colour of life”.
Sean Jendlin’s bright colourful images are composed of an amalgamation of various erotic scenes. The obvious graphical influence alongside the written text are reminiscent of advertising imagery and lay-out, and each work has the effect of being immediately visually impactful. Continuing his research on female archetypes and ritual studies, Sean presents for the first time in London his series of erotica images.
Born in 1945, Jean-Philippe Guéant expresses himself through painting & poetry as soon as the early 60s. His first exhibitions in the north of France leads him rapidly to show his works beyond the frontiers onto the international stage. Pioneer of a new concept in art, he does not cease to be inspired by his quest of Light.
Josh Cleary’s street-art style of urban images present us with iconic figures from rock-stars
to Buddhist Gods. Josh uses stencil and spray paint to create these very visual and colourful images on canvas. These iconic figures of popular culture are easily accessible and have high visual impact. Based in Autralia where he makes most of his work, Josh also travels the world painting in various cities and sourcing his inspiration with the places he visits.
